As you are well aware, the price of gas is always volatile. That’s why it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your tank and make sure you’re getting the absolute most out of your gas mileage. The good news is there are a couple easy (and most importantly free) things you can do to help you save money at the pump and make every penny count. Here are our tips of things you can do to save on gas.
Keep an eye on your tire pressure
In case you didn’t know, tires with low air pressure are unsafe and will ultimately cost you in your quest to save on fuel because driving on poorly inflated tires uses up a ton of gas. Keeping air in your tires will make your drive a little easier and help you save. Buy a cheap tire gauge and check all four wheels every now and then to make sure you’re in good shape.
Cruise Control is your new best friend
Cruise control isn’t just there to help you keep a steady pace. It also keeps you from wasting gas? Utilizing cruise control whenever you can improves gas mileage by regulating your maximum speed and maintaining a constant pace.
Turn down the air
When you’re pushing the A/C at full force, you’re also putting extra strain on your engine, which in turn forces it to work a little harder. This can drain up to 10-15% of your fuel when temperatures reach 80 degrees or higher. Our recommendation is to save the cool blast of AC for when you need it most.
Drive smart and safe
It’s always best to keep a cool head and try not to resort to some poor and unsafe driving habits. Examples of what not to do are suddenly accelerating after a stop or stopping short and slamming on the brakes at the last second. Even things like unnecessarily sharp turns and constantly weaving in and out of traffic lanes can dramatically reduce your fuel economy. At highway speeds, they can reduce your fuel economy by as much as 33%!
